About Us

Learn more about the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66

Our Mission

The Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66 is committed to preserving the rich history and contributions of musicians, performers and industry leaders who have impacted the music world and embodied the creative spirit of Illinois. We strive to inform, engage, and inspire our visitors through exhibits and programs that draw upon a diversity of cultures, history, and musical influence.

Our Purpose

We encourage exploration of Illinois music history as a pathway to inspiration. From Maxwell Street Blues to the studios on Record Row, pioneering radio stations and music magazines that pushed the sounds and talent of Illinois to the forefront of American music, to live music venues that served as a proving ground to launch the careers of so many artists, Illinois has had tremendous influence. We will encourage that influence to grow through inspiration and education, including practical hands-on experiences with guest artists, producers, and creators in our Music Lab in conjunction with the Illinois Arts Council.

The Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66 has purchased a three story building in downtown Joliet, IL that is undergoing renovation. The building will include exhibit spaces, a gift shop, a performance venue, and the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Route 66 Music Hall of Fame, and is the home of our Road To Rock online streaming radio station. All of this is made possible through museum memberships, private and corporate sponsors, donors, and grants.
