Wally Frederichs was one of the best known Chicago street musicians of the day during the 1970s. And probably one of the largest, too. Known as “Big” Wally, he was an excellent banjo player and his rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow was a show stopper. In his earlier days of playing he teamed up with several local musicians, including Bob Hoban, later of The Famous Potatoes fame.
