Suzie Bogguss      (1956-)

Suzie Bogguss was born on December 30, 1956, the youngest of four children to Barbara and Charles Bogguss.  She is best known for her hit songs “Someday Soon,” “Outbound Plane,” and “Ace.”

Suzie grew up in the small town of Aledo, IL.  She began singing in her church choir at age 5.  Encouraged by her parents, she studied piano, drums, and guitar.  As a child she visited Roy Rogers and Dale Evens many times at their home in Apple Valley, CA as they attended the same church as her grandparents.  She had this to say about growing up in Aledo:  “Merle Haggard’s songs were on the 8-track player in my dad’s car. Saturday nights when I would drive around with my friends, this was a part of our soundtrack. Back when country music talked about real adult problems and how we deal with them. We felt like we were eavesdropping on the secret lives of our parents.”

While attending Illinois State University where she majored in metalsmithing (a skill she would later use in jewelry design), she would often appear in coffee houses singing and playing guitar.  Drawn to the styles of Emmylou Harris, James Taylor, and Bonnie Raitt, in 1985, she auditioned for Dolly Parton at the theme park later known as Dollywood. While performing daily shows at Dollywood, she decided to self-produce and sell a demo.  The demo caught the attention of Capitol Records president Jim Foglesong who signed her to Liberty/Capitol Nashville.

Her debut album “Somewhere Between” was released in 1989 and contained the hits “Cross My Broken Heart” and “Hopelessly Yours”—a duet with Lee Greenwood that reached #12 on the country music charts and earned a Grammy Award nomination.

Her 1991 album “Aces” achieved platinum status and contained four hit singles including “Someday Soon,” Outbound Plane,” and “Letting Go.”  Suzie’s 1992 album “Voices in the Wind” produced the hit songs “Drive South,” “Just Like the Weather,” and “Hey Cinderella.”

Suzie Bogguss has achieved one platinum album, three certified gold albums, and six top ten singles
